Downspout Installation, Repair & Extensions in Denver & Across Colorado
Your gutters catch the water. Your downspouts decide where it lands. We repair, add, upsize, and extend downspouts so runoff ends up away from your foundation, not against it. Free estimates. No pressure, no surprises.
Downspout Work That Moves Water Where It Belongs
A gutter system is only as good as its downspouts. If a downspout is clogged, crushed, undersized, or dumping water at the base of your wall, the gutters above it can't do their job. This page covers the downspouts themselves: fixing them, adding more, sizing them up, and getting the water far enough from your home.
- Downspout repair: leaking joints, separated sections, and damaged elbows or extensions
- Rerouting downspouts that drain toward your foundation, walkway, or driveway
- Adding downspouts or upsizing existing ones on gutters that overflow in a hard rain
- Downspout extensions installed to carry water away from the structure
- Drainage routing, including French drains, when no landscape finishing is involved
- Downspouts matched to your gutters in color and material
Working on more than downspouts? Full gutter systems are covered on our gutter installation page. Leaking seams, sagging runs, and storm damage on the gutters themselves are covered on our gutter repair page.

Colorado Is Hard on Downspouts
Spring snowmelt and summer storms push a lot of water through a few narrow pipes. When a downspout can't keep up, the gutter overflows. When it empties too close to the house, that water soaks the ground right next to your foundation.
That matters more here than most places. The Front Range has expansive clay soils that swell when wet and shrink as they dry. Water that pools at your foundation feeds that cycle. Freeze-thaw adds to it. Water left standing in a clogged elbow freezes, expands, and splits seams. Cottonwood fluff in May packs the elbows fast. Hail can dent a downspout enough to choke the flow.
Most of these problems are simple to fix once someone finds them. That's what we do.

How We Handle Downspout Work
1. Free On-Site Assessment
We come out and look at the whole path the water takes, from the gutter outlet to where it hits the ground. Standalone downspout jobs are quoted after this visit.
2. Find the Real Cause
Overflow at a corner can be a clogged elbow, a downspout that's too small, or too few downspouts for the roof above it. We find which one before we recommend anything.
3. Clear Scope, One Flat Price
You get a plain scope of what we'll fix or install and one flat price. No add-ons later.
4. Repair or Install
We replace damaged sections and elbows, reseal joints, add or upsize downspouts, and secure everything to your home.
5. Route the Water Away
We set extensions and discharge points so water drains away from your foundation. If a yard needs more than an extension, we can talk through a French drain.
6. Inspect While We're Up There
Our crews check the gutters, hangers, seams, and fascia on every job. If we find hidden damage, we stop work on that section, show you what we found, and go over your options before going further.
7. Clean Jobsite & Final Walk
We clean up and walk you through the finished work, so you know exactly what was done and why.
Downspouts in the Size and Finish Your Home Needs
We offer 2x3-inch, 3x4-inch, and 4x5-inch corrugated downspouts, 3-inch and 4-inch round, and 4x4-inch box. Downspouts come in the same materials and wide color range as our gutters, so they match your trim and siding.
Aluminum
The most common choice for Colorado homes. Lightweight, rust-resistant, and holds up well through freeze-thaw.
Most CommonSteel
Stronger than aluminum. A good fit for downspouts in high-traffic spots or under heavy snow load. Galvanized or galvalume finishes resist rust.
Heavy DutyCopper
A premium, long-lasting choice that develops a natural patina. Often paired with copper gutters on historic and high-end homes.
PremiumMany Colorado homes were built with 5-inch gutters and 2x3-inch downspouts. On a big or steep roof, that is often undersized. For more on how materials compare, see our guide to the best gutter materials for Colorado.
What Downspout Work Costs
Downspout cost depends on what's wrong, how much downspout your home needs, the size and material, and how hard the work is to reach. Here is how we price it.
Downspout Repair
Repairs are scoped on time, materials, and markup, and delivered as one flat price. Gutter and downspout repairs run $100 to $900. Above that range, replacement is usually the better value, and we'll tell you which side of that line you're on.
New or Added Downspouts
Smaller downspout jobs fall in that same repair range. Larger jobs are priced per linear foot, the same way we price gutters. Standard 2x3-inch downspouts run $8 to $15 per linear foot, the same range as our 5-inch K-style seamless aluminum gutters. 3x4-inch downspouts run $9 to $16 per linear foot, the same range as our 6-inch gutters. Larger sizes, steel, copper, and custom work cost more.
Downspouts With a Full Gutter Replacement
When we replace your gutters, downspouts are part of the estimate. Extensions are included in our standard replacement quotes unless your property calls for something different. A typical full gutter replacement project runs $2,500 to $3,500. For what drives that number, see our guide to gutter replacement cost in Denver.
Every job gets one flat price before work begins. The number we give you is the number on the invoice.

Common Questions About Downspouts in Colorado
Straight answers on downspout repair, extensions, sizing, and cost across the Denver metro.
What does a downspout do, and why does it matter so much?
A downspout carries water from your gutters to the ground and away from your home. If it clogs, leaks, or empties right at the wall, the water your gutters collected ends up at your foundation anyway.
What does downspout repair cost?
Gutter and downspout repairs run $100 to $900. We scope the repair on time, materials, and markup and give you one flat price before work begins. The number we give you is the number on the invoice.
What does it cost to install downspouts?
Small jobs fall in the $100 to $900 repair range. Larger jobs are priced per linear foot, with standard 2x3-inch downspouts at $8 to $15 per linear foot and 3x4-inch downspouts at $9 to $16 per linear foot. Larger sizes, steel, copper, and custom work cost more.
Do you install downspout extensions?
Yes. We install extensions on their own after an on-site assessment, and they are included in our standard gutter replacement quotes unless your property needs a different solution.
Why does water pool near my foundation even though I have downspouts?
It almost always comes down to where the downspout ends. If it dumps water at the base of your home, the fix is usually an extension, rerouting, or a French drain that carries water far enough away that it can't work its way back.
Can you add or upsize downspouts on my existing gutters?
Yes. If your gutters overflow in heavy rain or snowmelt, an added or larger downspout is often the fix. We'll confirm what your system needs during the free assessment.
Do you clean downspouts?
Yes. Every gutter cleaning includes clearing downspout blockages and checking flow. If a downspout is packed with old sediment, we'll recommend a wet cleaning, and you can get an instant cleaning quote on that page.
Can you fix downspouts in winter?
We work year-round. For safety and to protect your roof, we wait until ice has thawed on both the roof and the ground before we start.
Is downspout work covered by your warranty?
Yes. Our two-year workmanship warranty covers our repairs and installations, including downspout connections that separate or fail due to installation error. Storm damage and work by other contractors are not covered.
