Colorado weather is hard on gutters. Hail season runs May through August, snow load comes off upper rooflines all winter, and high-altitude UV breaks materials down faster than at sea level. The right material depends on what your home actually faces. For most Denver-area homes that is seamless aluminum, but steel and copper each earn their place.

Aluminum

The most popular choice for Colorado homes. Aluminum is lightweight, rust-resistant, comes in 30-plus colors, and holds up well through freeze-thaw. It is the best value for most homeowners and the reason most local installs are 5-inch K-style aluminum, which runs about $8 to $15 per linear foot installed.

Steel

Stronger than aluminum and a smart step up for homes that take heavy snow load from upper rooflines or have had gutters torn off before. Galvanized and galvalume finishes resist rust. Steel costs more than aluminum, but for high-snow exposure it can be the difference between a system that holds and one you replace again.

Copper

The premium option. Copper develops a natural patina over time, never needs paint, and lasts for decades, which makes it a fit for historic homes, high-end properties, and custom builds. It sits at the top of the price range and is chosen for looks and longevity as much as performance.

Seamless vs sectional, and matching material to your home

Seamless gutters are fabricated on-site as one continuous run, so there are far fewer seams where water can leak or work behind the gutter. Sectional gutters join every few feet, meaning more seams and more failure points, which matters more in a freeze-thaw climate. Beyond material, the right setup depends on roof size, pitch, and how much water sheds during a hard Colorado storm. Bigger or steeper roofs often justify 6-inch gutters and oversized downspouts. If hail or snow has damaged gutters before, stepping up from aluminum to steel and adding more hidden hangers is a common fix.
